Plain Love (DVD) (End) (English Subtitled) (TVB Drama) (US Version) Before Country Spirit (2000), veteran TVB producer Lau Si Yu had made the hit period drama Plain Love (1995) which proved the audiences loved stories that delve into the deep bond between the Chinese and their land. The touching romantic drama stars Gallen Lo and Kathy Chow in a demanding role that requires her to play a countrywoman from her adolescence to her old age. Eddie Cheung, Kwan Hoi San, Lawrence Ng, Ai Wei, Tsui Ka Bo, and Maggie Chan round out the solid main cast of this sweeping romance set in early 20th-century China. As an orphan, Lau A Choi (Kathy Chow) was sold into the family of wealthy landlord Kwan Hok Yue (Kwan Hoi San) as the child bride of his sick fourth son. Over the years, she has received much abuse from the Kwans, except for his second son Tin Yam (Eddie Cheung) who is the only one that cares about her. Both of them have genuine feelings for each other, but sadly their budding romance is never meant to be, as Choi is forced to marry poor, uneducated farmer Fong Shu Gan (Gallen Lo). Initially reluctant to accept this arranged marriage with a man she doesn't like, the optimistic and perseverant Choi slowly accepts her fate and tries to make the most out of it.
